Intellectual disabilities create learning barriers and lead to inclusion issues. Being exclusive leads to an individual’s self-esteem to understanding relaxation and enjoyment to ensure a positive body and mind. This barrier affects interpersonal skills such as daily routines, organisation and consciousness of hazards. While life domains consist of work education, social connections and work, there comes a time of relaxation such as holidays, vacations and breaks. Doing so, however, requires requirements such as safety plans, alcohol awareness, home hazards and OHS protocols.
The Easy Read Toolbox visioned revolutionising the intellectual disability sector through education and resources of applying thoughtful layout design to create easy learning. The icons also allow the intellectually disability sector to understand creating safe holiday experiences. In addition, creates external and internal empathy such as guests, attendees, travel and home safety. The form of empathy allows growing good habits such as catering to others, nurturing visitors, organisation skills and self-control.
The design involved communicating safety requirements during holidays such as using ladders safely for home decorations, protecting a home while travelling, awareness of alcohol overconsumption and mindfulness over drunk driving. The design requires incorporating equipment and warning signs within the designs. The imagery allows teaching planning activities and requires processes during holiday periods to ensure an enjoyable safe experience.
