Intellectual disabilities create barriers to an everyday lifestyle that affects living independently, creating stubborn health, particularly with maintaining positive well-being. In the field of nutrition, low management creates ongoing issues that affect every essential health pattern such as obesity, undereating, and overeating. The effect would lead to not independently understanding health-balanced nutrition, food types and benefits of food categories.
The Easy Read Toolbox strived to increase learning in the Intellectual disabilities sector of eating patterns. A set of icons of meat, vegetables, fruit, dairy and to name a few. The icons are used to focus on understanding the categories easier and use text to explain strategies for eating certain food types and the benefits of each food category.
The design involved applying colour to different common food types that offer protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, and fibre. The icons demonstrate the common meal types through an image, with the teaching style of simplistic layout teaching how certain food improve specific health areas, and appropriate times to eat certain foods. The set of icons strives to assist with the everyday routine of eating to understand balanced nutrition, improve digestive health, avoid bodily issues, and maintain physical health through eating.
