Intellectual disabilities affect knowledge and have a holistic impact, such as connections and awareness. This can lead to affecting living skills, such as everyday living, essential tasks, and ubiquitous activities, including eating, sleeping, and resting. Ultimately, education is essential for soft skills such as nurturing others, being connected in society and understanding social areas such as inclusion.
The Easy Read Toolbox is envisioned to benefit the Intellectual disabilities field through thoughtful layout design and a suitable mix of text and words. The Easy Read Toolbox applied icons to assist with housing.
The set of icons helped communicate all sorts of context, ranging from shelter to entertainment to protection. The icons involved the communicating shapes of houses and activities in situations such as protection from climates (heat, cold, wind), everyday home tasks, and relaxing or sleeping under a roof.
