Intellectual disabilities affect leisure in the mind due to learning difficulties that include language use, content display and tone of delivery. Intellectual disabilities struggle to find enjoyment and leisure, therefore affecting health. This creates barriers, as each year, would see restful and celebrative periods such as holidays. The holidays would commonly see the time of travel and understand how to travel to relieve the mind during holiday periods. Families, friends and students commonly travel during holiday periods. Doing so requires understanding the methods of travel in different environments such as road trips, interstate or overseas travels.
The Easy Read Toolbox aimed to create a more convincing method of learning for intellectual disabilities through layout by effectively combining visual imagery and text. The design ensures creating an easy learning style to assist with various personal and personal matters. Teaching holiday travel requires educating the need for different transport methods and understanding certain requirements such as distance, cost, timing and location. The content allows the end-user group to either independently take or understand the most sensible travel methods such as using planes for long-distance travel, caravans for convenient living and cars for cheaper neighbouring town travel.
The design consists of vehicle icons such as cars, buses, taxis, boats and trains. The design also consists of the vehicles using travel equipment to emphasise travel such as luggage in a backseat or a car with a caravan attached. The icons aimed to demonstrate the common build and appearance of each vehicle and text was applied to demonstrate the purpose and advantage of the vehicle, such as planes or boats required for travelling to location overseas to the user. The set of icons hopes to teach the user about the need for different transport methods to travel on holidays and potentially independent travel to various venues, locations, towns and countries. As such ensure enjoyable holidays to visit events, destinations, and landmarks.
