Intellectual disabilities create social connections due to the learning capacity and require altered teaching methods. Without applying inclusion, intellectual disabilities affect social areas such as friendship, joy, and entertainment. Therefore, inclusion is essential to fit into society, particularly to understanding traditions, events, and occasions of cultures around the world. October involves the festive of Halloween that includes various activities ranging from events to parties to trick-or-treating.
The Easy Read Toolbox aims to improve the learning environment for intellectual disabilities and requires a set of icons to create a safe Halloween experience. The design required emphasising a scary theme such as character dress up, Jack-o’-lanterns, pumpkin heads, scary films, and supernatural themes. The consideration ensures the user understands the common events of the Halloween period. But required contemplation of safe Halloween experiences such as film rating maturity, over-eating junk food, trick-or-treating hazard awareness and group trick-or-treating watchout.
The Easy Read Toolbox envisions a thoughtful layout, condensed text, and emphasis icons to create easy learning. Through layout design allows the icons to convey the experiences and journeys used during Halloween activities. Applying text allows educating requirements, considerations, and awareness to explain the image in further context.
